Arizona Layoff Resources

If you have been laid off in Arizona, these resources can help you apply for unemployment, find health coverage, seek financial assistance, locate workforce services, and get reliable information about possible workplace problems.

Eligibility requirements vary by program. Use the links below to check current rules and apply through the responsible agency.

Unemployment Benefits and Filing

Apply promptly through Arizona’s unemployment system and file a weekly claim for each week you request benefits. Arizona currently requires at least four work-search contacts on four different days each week unless DES tells you otherwise.

Layoff-Notice Protections

Arizona does not have a separate state mini-WARN law. Federal WARN may require 60 days of notice for certain large layoffs and plant closings. Arizona Rapid Response provides reemployment help and maintains information about WARN and other reported workforce reductions.

Health-Insurance Coverage

Arizona uses HealthCare.gov for Marketplace coverage. Losing job-based insurance usually creates a special enrollment opportunity. You can also apply for AHCCCS Medicaid through Health-e-Arizona Plus or compare COBRA.

Food, Cash, Childcare, Utility, and Local Assistance

Health-e-Arizona Plus is the main application portal for AHCCCS, Nutrition Assistance (SNAP), and Cash Assistance. Arizona Child Care Assistance may have a waiting list. Utility help is available through LIHEAP and the related Power AZ program, subject to eligibility and funding.

Workforce and Reemployment Services

ARIZONA@WORK provides free job-search, résumé, career, computer, veteran, and training services. Arizona Job Connection is the state workforce system’s job database.

Workplace Problems and Legal Help

The Industrial Commission of Arizona handles certain state wage and labor complaints. The Arizona Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division handles employment discrimination covered by state law. Employment discrimination complaints to the Civil Rights Division generally must be filed within 180 days.

Civil legal help

The State Bar does not operate a statewide referral service. Maricopa and Pima county bar associations offer referral services; fees vary.
