Layoff-Notice Protections
New Hampshire has its own Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act in addition to federal WARN. The state law generally covers employers with at least 100 employees and can require 60 days’ notice before certain plant closings or mass layoffs. A state-law mass layoff can include at least 250 full-time employees, or at least 25 full-time employees if they make up at least 33% of the employer’s full-time workforce at a single site. New Hampshire also has a separate unemployment-reporting rule for certain temporary or permanent layoffs of 25 or more workers lasting at least seven days because of a vacation or holiday shutdown or company closure.
